Zero-Emissions Reefer System

Every farm requires a means of transporting its products to the community and beyond. This is often done through diesel-powered refrigeration trucks that deliver produce and other goods to storage or points of sale and distribution. These diesel refrigeration vehicles can be costly and produce excess emissions that pollute the environment. We are currently raising funds to purchase and build a solar mobile electric refrigeration unit for research and development. We believe this to be a more innovative, sustainable, and environmentally friendly method of food transportation and storage. The electric refrigeration unit is powered by solar and onboard battery banks while making deliveries and (220V or 120V) shore power while parked. The benefits of solar can save an estimated $35,000 in annual maintenance and fuel costs and reduce down-time for maintenance by 75%.

We not only plan to use this system to move and deliver goods. We will test these systems and collect data points for research and development that will aid in consulting other organizations and farms that wish to utilize this technology as well. We believe that by replacing gas and diesel-powered refrigeration units with solar electric powered units we could have a huge positive impact on the environment and save people money too. We estimate that by switching to an electric refrigeration unit we could eliminate over $1,500 per week of our own refrigeration vehicle rental expenses, that's $78,00 per year!
